The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) represents one of the largest expansions of public healthcare benefits in Canadian history. Designed to make dental services more affordable, the CDCP aims to ease financial barriers for residents who do not have private dental insurance and have a net family income of less than $90,000.
As a community-focused dental clinic, Grace Dental Centre is proud to participate in the CDCP. We believe that everyone deserves a healthy smile, and we are here to help patients navigate this new program, understand what services are covered, and transition smoothly into receiving their care.
Eligibility for the program is handled in phases by the federal government. Currently, seniors, adults with valid disability tax credit certificates, and children under the age of 18 are eligible to apply. To qualify, you must be a Canadian resident, have filed your tax return for the previous year, and have no access to employer-sponsored or private dental insurance.
Once you receive your welcome package and CDCP member card from Sun Life (the government's contracted administrator), you can begin booking appointments. Under the CDCP, a wide range of preventative, diagnostic, restorative, and oral surgery treatments are covered, including regular cleanings, dental exams, x-rays, fillings, root canals, and extractions.
It is important to know that while the CDCP covers a significant portion of dental fees, it is billed according to a standard government fee guide. Depending on your household income, you may have a co-payment of 0%, 40%, or 60%. At Grace Dental Centre, our administration team will handle the direct billing to Sun Life, ensuring you only pay your portion at the time of your appointment.
Prioritizing oral health is essential to your overall physical well-being. Untreated dental issues can lead to chronic pain, infections, and complicate systemic health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. If you or a family member is eligible for the CDCP, we encourage you to contact Grace Dental Centre today to schedule an exam and take full advantage of your benefits.
